Passage under sail resizedj (1)

You can follow our longer sails (passages) on these pages or read excerpts from our log.  If you are looking for shorter sails  – such as between islands – they are described with The Destinations.

If you notice a discrepancy between our log entries and the dates/times on our passage notes, it is because our log is in UTC, and our passage notes are in local time.

2005
In our first season, we spent some time in the outer islands of Hawaii before headed south towards the equator. We then sailed south across the equator, and we cruised the south pacific until we arrived in New Zealand on December 6, 2005. In total, we sailed 5,070 miles.
2006
In our second season out, we sailed around New Zealand a bit, then north to Fiji. We were in Fiji for almost four months, then we sailed from Fiji to Vanuatu then from Vanuatu to Australia. We sailed 3,735 miles. We had planned on also visiting New Caledonia before heading to Australia for the storm season (southern hemisphere summer), but we had a change of plans. We enjoyed Vanuatu enough that we wanted more time there, so we decided to spend the remainder of the season sailing north through Vanuatu, then check out from Luganville on Espiritu Santo and sail directly to Bundaberg, Australia.
2007
In 2007, we sailed 2,000+ miles up the east coast and across the top of Australia – from Bundaberg to Darwin. From Darwin we went to Timor, Indonesia, We cruised for three months in Indonesia. We sailed from Indonesia to Singapore where we stayed for three weeks. Then we spent a month sailing in Malaysia, before we sailed into Phuket, Thailand. Totaling 4,989 nautical miles.
2008
In 2008, we sailed only 642 nautical miles. We cruised the west coast of Thailand, then returned to Malaysia for six months then back to Thailand again. In August, 2008, we hauled Passage out of the water where she stayed past the end of the year.
2009
Passage got back in the water in March 2009. We sailed back and forth between Langkawi, Malaysia and Phuket, Thailand a few times. Then we made a trip out to India’s Andaman Islands which is where we were at the end of the calendar year. We sailed only 1,154 miles in 2009.
2010
We started 2010 in the Andaman Islands then returned to Phuket, Thailand. We spent the rest of 2010 between Langkawi, Malaysia and Phuket, Thailand while making final plans to head west around the first of the year. We are really ready to move on. We sailed 1,302 miles in 2010.
2011
In 2011, we left southeast Asia and headed west across the Indian Ocean and Red Sea. We sailed from Thailand to Sri Lanka and from Sri Lanka to the Maldives before disaster struck. The pirate-infested waters had recently turned dangerous and violent. So, we loaded Passage on the deck of a large ship and flew from Maldives to Turkey where we met her. We then began our cruising in Europe. We sailed 1,924 miles before shipping Passage, and we sailed 326 in Turkey after she arrived. We sailed a total of 2,250 miles, and Passage traveled an additional 3,866 miles on the ship.
2012

We started 2012 in Turkey, and we spent six weeks in Greece. We made some changes to our plans while in Greece, and we decided to sail west through the Mediterranean. We visited Albania, Italy, Malta, and Spain. We sailed 2,283 miles from Turkey to Gibraltar. Then we sailed another 626 miles to the Canary Islands where we ended the season. We sailed a total of 2,909 miles.

2014
In 2014, we sailed from Grenada to the ABC Islands including Bonaire, Curacao, and Aruba. We started 2015 in French Polynesia. We sailed around the leeward islands a bit, then we sailed home to Hawaii. We sailed 2,865 miles. We returned to the Ala Wai harbor in Honolulu on June 19, 2015. We had sailed a total of 34,694 miles.
