When we arrived in Europe, we did not know how long we would stay. But we thought we could probably entertain ourselves for four or five years. That was before the reality of Mediterranean ‘sailing’, crowds, anchorages, and marinas. In the end, we stayed only two years. We spent one year on the west coast of Turkey, and we spent our second year crossing the Med and sailing down to the Canary Islands from where we left Europe.
We visited Turkey, Greece, Albania, Italy, Malta, and Spain. Each of these were interesting places, but we would have preferred seeing them via land travel rather than sailing. So we moved through each a bit quicker than we might have otherwise.
